Garbage Dumpster Juice: Outsider Art By Thomas L. Vaultonburg

I have never been able to draw, dance, or play music, but about seven years ago I found myself with a lot of time on my hands, so I went and bought an array of acrylic paints from the art shop, and a bunch of 8x10 canvases. I thought for a long time about what it was I wanted to paint. It had to be simple, because I can't draw, so my first idea, Famous Crashes of NASCAR History was out. I needed to really dumb it down.

I live in an alley behind five restaurants, and all of those restaurants use the same garbage dumpster, so I started to wonder what are the most vile fluids on planet Earth, and what color would they be? I would paint them in Popsicle flavors. Disgusting, I know, but it was a simple premise to come up with some different colors, and paint them in a simple figure even I could manage. The first one was titled after my original idea: Garbage Dumpster Juice.

Eventually I did eight of these paintings, and aside from our yearly family painting, haven't painted since. I gave all my acrylic paints to Jenny. I won't list the names of those paintings, because what I was attempting to do was think of the sickest thing I could think of, then I would ask jenny how I would make that color. I will say that one of the paintings, "Oprah Winfrey's Pussy," is my most viewed blog of all time at Zombie Logic. I worked the hardest on that painting, and the least hard on "Garbage Dumpster Juice."

Another painting I did was titled "Vic Tayback Was the Zodiac Killer," which didn't fit into the theme at all, but originally it was titled something goofy like Vic Tayback's Toe Jam, and while researching the actor I discovered he was taken seriously as a suspect in the Zodiac killings at one point, as were other Hollywood figures including Christopher Walken and the drummer for the Beach Boys. Knowing the history of the Beach Boys, Mike Love is a more likely suspect, but probably smooth enough to have gotten away with it.

I see that the definition of outsider art the Center For Intuitive and Outsider Art uses differs from mine somewhat, but I agree with one of their definitions in that I created these from an inner compulsion and was indifferent if they were ever seen by others or not.

  2. Only downsides here was that I’m not sure if they were expecting such a crowd as they did not have nearly enough servers and sometimes it would take a really long time for service guy to come. But at event venue they tried to keep a smiles on their face.
